Project Description

In the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre (SNFCC), the Foundation’s largest single grant including the new facilities for the National Library of Greece and the Greek National Opera, as well as the Stavros Niarchos Park, ZARIFOPOULOS have designed, developed and installed integrated systems of Fire Detection, Automatic Fire Suppression and Gas Detection.

The dedicated Major Projects Team of ZARIFOPULOS, have developed the most suitable solutions to meet the project’s high-end specifications. ZARIFOPOULOS have installed a Fire Detection system consisting of 5 fire detection panels (manufacturer ADCANCED-UK) connected through optical fibre, with 36 branches in total, supporting 3000 detectors and 3000 control and monitoring units in the areas of the National Library, the National Opera and the ancillary buildings (Car Park, Maintenance and Canal building). The National Opera in particular, is further protected through a high sensitivity air sampling system.

Furthermore, 60 local Suppression systems were installed, with a KENTEC panel, peripheral fire detection devices by SYSTEM SENSOR and KAC, and fire suppression systems by HYGOOD of TYCO, using as suppression material NOVEC 1230, protecting from fire all electrical and mechanical equipment of medium and low voltage, Control Rooms and critical equipment for the operation of the complex. Special design studies of NOVEC hydraulic calculations were required and completed, based on which proper operation of the systems can be ensured, in line with the project brief and relevant international standards.

Finally, the Car Park is protected from high CO concentration, through an addressable CO detection system (by ADOS-DE).
