BULGARIA: Industrial and biological waste treatment plant and RDF fuel production plant

In 2015, the subsidiary company of ZARIFOPOULOS S.A. in Bulgaria (Zarifopoulos Bulgaria Ltd) completed a significant large-scale industrial project, using fire detection systems of Austrian manufacturer SCHRACK SECONET AG.

The main contractor for the construction of the project was “AKTOR-HELECTOR” Group, and the industrial facility is the most state-of-the-art facility of its kind in Western Europe, with a waste treatment capacity of 410.000 tons of waste per year and a production capacity of 154.000 tons of pulverized RDF fuel per year.

Zarifopoulos Bulgaria Ltd managed the supply, installation and commissioning in full normal operation, of an extensive fire detection system, consisting of six advanced addressable fire detection panels, using high specification hot redundant (dual processor) technology, connected in a network.

The six panels have been installed in six buildings of the facility respectively, where fire detection is achieved through:

Combined smoke and heat detectors of type MTD 533X
Manual alarm buttons of type MCP545X-1R
Linear temperature detectors
Sound alarm equipment – sirens

The overall Fire detection system operates in close communication with the Supervisory control and data acquisition system (SCADA), ensured through a series of peripheral monitoring and control units.

An integral part of the installation is the public address megaphonic system of manufacturer BOSCH, supplied and installed by Zarifopoulos Bulgaria Ltd.
